ABOUT LIGHTROOM

Lightroom is a new permanent projection-based arts venue which opened in Kings Cross, London in February 2023. Created through a joint venture between 59 Productions and London Theatre Company, Lightroom creates remarkable artist-led shows for audiences in London and across the world.

We invite the world’s leading creative minds to use our vast space and revolutionary technology to create something completely new. Launching with collaborations with the much-loved British artist David Hockney (Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away)) and actor and producer Tom Hanks (The Moonwalkers), Lightroom aims to be the home of stories from the world’s most exciting voices across all disciplines of the arts, music, popular science or beyond.

Lightroom is located in King’s Cross on Lewis Cubitt Square, adjacent to Coal Drops Yard and Central St Martin’s. The innovative showspace was designed by 59 Productions in close collaboration with Haworth Tompkins, who designed the venue as a sister space to the award-winning Bridge Theatre. Along with a generous Foyer and gift shop, the space also contains a bar and seating area in collaboration with St John. In late 2023, Lightroom Seoul opened in the South Korean capital.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Technician is a core member of the operational team at the Lightroom venue, responsible for day to day delivery of the crucial Video, Lighting and Sound Experience to the visitors in a consistent and exemplary way.

In this new venue, the primary output of the creative team is via a technically delivered medium- Video, Lighting and Sound. It is therefore essential to its effective operation that the venue gather a solid team of Technicians who understand the importance of this and are committed to the delivery of a consistently excellent visitor experience.

To give access to the maximum audience, Lightroom operates 7 days per week, especially evenings and weekends. A Duty Technician must be on site for operation.

Day to day, the Duty Technician will be responsible for establishing that all systems are operational and ready for visitors, opening the venue and working alongside colleagues to ensure that the system remains operational and functioning until the last visitor leaves at the end of the day. The Lightroom approach to venue operation draws strongly from the theatre and live event industry in ensuring that every visitor experience is the best it can be and is not a traditional visitor attraction in its operation. This means digging deeper into the day to day technical operation, not accepting down time, and maintaining ‘show ready’ status every day.

In order to achieve this, Technicians will be equipped with the best available equipment skills in the industry, following on from design principles based in the operation of large scale stadium shows and theatre productions of international acclaim. Training and preparation will be provided, and applicants from all backgrounds and levels of experience and education will be welcomed- as long as they can demonstrate that they support the fundamental ethos that every visitor should be welcomed and that their experience matters.
